The Senior Tax Associate is responsible for the detailed preparation and review of complex returns, ensuring accuracy and strict adherence to tax laws, while supporting Tax Managers in strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and meticulously review complex federal and state tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals, with a core focus on real estate clients.
- Manage the tax compliance workflow for assigned clients, ensuring all filing deadlines are met and that documentation is organized and complete.
- Proactively identify and communicate potential issues or opportunities encountered during tax return preparation to the supervising Tax Manager.
Research and Planning Support
- Perform in-depth tax research and analysis on complex technical issues related to real estate transactions, investments, and entity structures.
- Assist Tax Managers and Partners in developing and modeling tax planning strategies and implementing tax-saving initiatives for clients.
- Stay current with changes in the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), Treasury Regulations, and state tax laws, and effectively translate those changes into actionable client advice.
Client and Team Development
- Serve as a professional and responsive point of contact for clients to gather necessary tax information and resolve preparation queries.
- Collaborate effectively with the firm's Audit and Advisory teams to ensure comprehensive service delivery and seamless data exchange.
- Provide guidance, oversight, and on-the-job training to Tax Associates, reviewing their work for accuracy and compliance.
Candidate Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA license or actively pursuing CPA certification (must be eligible to sit for the exam).
- Minimum of 2-4 years of current, progressive tax experience in a public accounting firm.
- Solid knowledge of federal and state tax compliance, with demonstrable experience in real estate taxation (e.g., partnerships, passive activity rules, like-kind exchanges).
- Excellent analytical and research skills, including proficiency with tax research databases (e.g., Checkpoint, BNA).
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., CCH Pro System fx, GoSystem) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong ability to work independently and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
