They are seeking an experienced Controller to partner closely with the CFO and lead the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the organization.

Job Details
The Controller will support the CFO in overseeing the organization's financial operations while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all accounting functions.
This position will have leadership responsibility across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Treasury, Financial Reporting, Fixed Assets, and Financial Systems while managing and developing members of the accounting team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including GL, fixed assets, AP, AR, billing, cash management, payroll, and third-party financial reporting
- Manage and develop accounting staff while driving accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement
- Oversee monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Partner closely with the CFO on monthly and annual financial statements, financial analysis, executive reporting, and Board reporting
- Coordinate annual financial audits, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting with external accounting partners
- Lead the organization's annual budgeting process in partnership with operational and executive leadership
- Serve as a financial liaison with banks and other institutions related to debt financing, investments, and cash management
- Oversee regulatory and lender reporting, including HUD reporting, bond certifications, bank covenant reporting, and state regulatory requirements
- Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes
- Oversee retirement plan contributions, payroll tax deposits, reconciliations, and related reporting
- Partner with HR and benefit providers on benefit payments, reconciliations, renewals, and reporting
- Collaborate with IT and third-party providers on financial system enhancements, updates, and process improvements
- Support the CFO on special projects, third-party partnerships, and broader organizational initiatives
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or management of an accounting function
- CPA or Master's degree required
- Strong hands-on knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, month-end/year-end close, and GAAP
- Previous experience managing and developing accounting professionals
- Demonstrated experience coordinating external financial audits
- Hands-on experience leading organizational budgeting and financial planning
- Experience with debt financing, lender reporting, and/or financial institution relationships
- Exposure to HUD, bond, covenant, or other regulatory financial reporting strongly preferred
- Senior living, healthcare, nonprofit, or similarly regulated industry experience preferred
- Advanced financial analysis capabilities
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong understanding of accounting systems and financial technology
- Ability to communicate financial information effectively to executive leadership, Board members, operational leaders, and external stakeholders
- Strong process-improvement mindset with the ability to identify opportunities to strengthen efficiency and internal controls
