The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll accurately and timely using the UKG payroll platform. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, maintains employee payroll records, audits payroll data, and provides payroll support to employees and management. The specialist serves as a subject matter expert for UKG payroll functions and partners closely with Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, and Accounting teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and biweekly using UKG Pro.
- Review and validate payroll data, including employee earnings, deductions, taxes, and time records.
- Audit payroll reports to ensure accuracy and compliance before payroll submission.
- Manage employee payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, transfers, and bonus payments.
- Administer garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, and other payroll deductions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and wage-and-hour laws.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries in a timely manner.
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support payroll tax reporting, quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and reconciliation.
- Generate and analyze payroll reports for HR, Finance, and leadership.
- Participate in UKG system testing, upgrades, implementations, and process improvements.
- Assist with audits and provide required payroll documentation to internal and external auditors.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax withholding, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
- Experience with multi-state payroll processing.
- Experience supporting payroll for 8000K employees.
- Some knowledge of HRIS and payroll integrations.
