Description
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Retail Mortgage Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This role supports the daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting functions for our retail mortgage operations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Loan Vision or a comparable mortgage accounting platform and is eager to grow within a fast-paced, collaborative, compliance-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities Daily & Monthly Accounting- Record and reconcile loan-level transactions, including fundings, disbursements, payoffs, investor settlements, and borrower first payments. Maintain accurate general ledger entries related to mortgage banking activities.
- Assist with cash management, including warehouse line activity and daily cash reconciliations.
- Support the preparation of cash receipts, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Review loan pipelines to ensure accurate accounting treatment throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Validate and audit MLO’s calculated commission results against actual plans
- Obtain proper approvals and entering of AP invoices
- Reconcile warehouse lines, including interest, fees, and collateral balances.
- Collaborate with administration, operations, secondary marketing, funding, and post-closing teams to resolve discrepancies, and to support company objectives and initiatives.
- Support month-end close processes and internal reporting deadlines.
- Prepare schedules and reconciliations for audits, regulatory exams, and internal reviews.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and mortgage industry standards.
- Working knowledge of Loan Vision, Encompass, or similar mortgage accounting/LOS systems.
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles and loan-level accounting.
- Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
- Ability to analyze data, identify variances, and resolve issues with accuracy.
- Maturity in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
- Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2-4 years of progressive experience in the mortgage industry, preferably in accounting or loan operations. Familiarity with mortgage regulatory requirements.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Familiarity with complex commission plans for MLO’s
- Experience with warehouse line accounting.
- Exposure to hedging, secondary marketing, or servicing accounting.
