Position SummaryThe Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting, is responsible for performing a diverse range of accounting activities, with a primary focus on financial reporting and general accounting. This role applies a strong understanding of insurance company operations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to analyze, interpret, and maintain accurate accounting records, journals, registers, and related financial directives.
The Staff Accountant plays an integral role in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, helping ensure the timely and accurate completion of financial reporting activities. In addition, this position provides valuable support to the Accounting Department by contributing to the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information and supporting effective accounting operations.
Responsibilities- Compile and analyze quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Prepare month-end journal entries supported by comprehensive documentation, detailed worksheets, and account reconciliations.
- Conduct thorough variance analysis to identify trends, provide meaningful insights, and support opportunities for process and financial optimization.
- Lead and contribute to special projects that enhance operational effectiveness, strengthen processes, and support the achievement of strategic business objectives.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously enhance knowledge, stay current with industry standards and best practices, and support ongoing professional growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline, with one or more years of accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or actively pursuing CPA certification
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles, with the ability to apply basic mathematical concepts in daily accounting activities
- Ability to build and maintain professional, positive, and collaborative relationships with internal and external customers
- Skill in analysis, problem-solving, and prioritization, with the ability to evaluate information and develop effective solutions
- Skill in organizational and time-management with a strong commitment to accuracy, precision and attention to detail in completing tasks and deliverables
- Skill in verbal and written communications, with the ability to convey financial and business information clearly and effectively
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while effectively managing multiple responsibilities, priorities, and deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn and utilize function-specific accounting and business software applications
