A nationally recognized nonprofit youth development organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its finance and accounting team. The organization serves millions of young people annually and is focused on creating safe, impactful, and high-quality experiences for youth and families nationwide.
About the RoleThe Accounting Manager will work across the accounting function under the direction of the Controller, supporting cross-functional projects and business priorities. This role is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of accounting operations while driving continuous improvement. The position will translate evolving business priorities into actionable accounting support, ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements, and enhance service to internal stakeholders.
The role also provides leadership oversight of an internal audit function and influences cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.
- Partner with the Controller to support accounting functions based on business needs.
- Provide coverage during peak-demand periods across accounting teams.
- Prepare and review accurate journal entries.
- Review and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures comply with GAAP and applicable tax requirements.
- Drive process improvements and streamline accounting processes.
- Coordinate with accounting leaders and support internal and external audit activities.
- Deliver high-quality accounting support with a strong service orientation.
- Respond with urgency to critical departmental priorities.
- Collaborate across finance and accounting teams to address business needs.
- Serve as a trusted resource across the accounting organization.
- Lead and direct an internal audit professional.
- Influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

- Financial Reporting Excellence: Financial statements and journal entries are accurate, complete, and delivered within established close timelines.

- Process Improvement: Manual processes, cycle times, and redundancies are reduced through meaningful improvements.
- Stakeholder Support: Finance and business partners receive responsive, clear, and effective accounting support.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Accounting activities adhere to GAAP, internal controls, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership: Direct reports demonstrate strong performance, growth, and engagement through effective coaching and accountability.

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; master's degree preferred
- Active CPA license
- 5-7 years of relevant accounting experience, including public accounting/audit experience

- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

This is a hybrid position with regular in-office collaboration required 2 days per week and additional attendance as business needs dictate. The role requires the ability to work at a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
