ROLE
We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) in the Atlanta Regional Office in Atlanta, GA. In this role, you will provide administrative support for MSPB operations by supporting day-to-day office needs and appeal processing activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Receive incoming telephone calls/visitors, determine the nature of their business, and refer calls to the appropriate staff
- Assist with the receipt and distribution of incoming mail for the agency
- Create paper files, indexes, and other documents as needed
- Tab and file paper records for quick retrieval
- Enter data and type consistently on a personal computer
- Use office equipment to conduct daily office work
- Operate personal computers, fax machines, and copy machines as needed
- Scan documents using office scanners and mail equipment
- Communicate with court reporters to schedule telephone conferences
- Coordinate in-person hearings and video hearings with external customers
- Initiate inquiries regarding case processing for the Administrative Judge
- Respond to appeal inquiries on behalf of the Administrative Judge
- Address questions from the public, appellants, and representatives at the Supervisory Paralegal Specialist’s direction
- Explain general Board procedures for potential, pending, and past appeals
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the legal field
- 2-4 years of experience in the administrative field or in a related legal assistant area
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Undergraduate degree preferred

Applicants will be subject to a background investigation. Individual’s primary workstation is located in an office area. The noise level in this environment is low to moderate. Regularly required to sit for extended periods up to 100% of the time; frequently required to move about to access file cabinets and use office equipment such as PC, copier, fax, telephone, cell phone, etc.
Occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 100% of the time.
