Court Clerk, Lead

Salary: $51,729 annually

General Description and Classification Standards:

Leads a team of court operations clerical personnel to ensure efficient operations in compliance with Court rules and regulations. Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports, forms, records, case depositions, continuances, and other documents. Retrieves or files legal documents as necessary to process court cases. This is a highly experienced skilled or technical position who routinely works with the most technically challenging assignments;

serves as a specialized subject matter expert in one or more specific areas; and guides the work of others in pertinent work. This level would be expected to regularly apply noticeably greater technical knowledge than the Senior level.

Supervision Received

Direction received is very general and focuses on end results and is typically collaborative in nature. Makes decisions on process issues or procedures in collaboration with supervisors or managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Develops work schedules for assigned personnel to ensure adequate courtroom staffing.
  • Studies various administrative procedures and methods; recommends improvements and initiates changes to improve effectiveness.
  • Monitors team activities through a variety of reports and documents.
  • Leads team in processing record check requests, preparing various forms and reports, and performing other clerical duties as necessary.
  • Reviews court cases to contact relevant parties for court appearance, prepares legal documents, and performs other duties as necessary to prepare for court.
  • Announces court cases and otherwise provides assistance to judges.
  • Leads team in preparing and processing court materials to include tickets, bond stubs, attorney cards, and other documents.
  • Records continuances and case dispositions on appropriate documents, provides defendants with driver's license suspension and other information, and performs other follow up work as necessary.
  • Receives and issues approval of leave requests, maintains attendance log, submits daily/weekly payroll forms, and performs other personnel related duties as necessary.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of reports, correspondence, and other documents.
  • Retrieves and/or files citations and other legal documents as necessary.
  • Prepares bond call and interacts with correction officers and other law enforcement officials as necessary.
  • Confers with attorneys, defendants, and others as necessary, providing information and responding to specific justification.
  • Communicates with bailiff, clerks, and other staff, providing assistance or advice as necessary to resolve problems and responds to the needs of defendants and others.
  • Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems.
  • Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced clerks.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Maintains confidential files, filing systems, and records.
  • Processes mail and distributes to team members on a daily basis.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience –

High school diploma or equivalent and

Three (3) years of court operations administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Licensures and Certifications

May need Georgia Criminal Investigation Center (GCIC) certification for some dispositions.

Fingerprinting required as a part of pre-employment onboarding. CJIS Security Policy v5-9-5.

Preferred Requirements

Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Accounting, or related field; three (3) years of related experience in a judiciary setting.
