Gcic Specialist

The GCIC Specialist provides critical data entry, records management, and administrative support related to the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) systems. Working under the supervision of the GCIC Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC), this position is responsible for entering, maintaining, validating, and auditing sensitive law enforcement records in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position handles confidential information and must adhere to all applicable requirements established by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and GCIC.

This position supports a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation and requires shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift assignments are determined based on operational needs and seniority.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Enter and maintain records in the GCIC/NCIC system, including stolen vehicles, missing persons, runaway juveniles, stolen property, firearms, and active warrants
  • Enter warrants submitted by Court Services, Probation Services, police officers, and detectives into the GCIC/NCIC system
  • Conduct criminal history inquiries for authorized law enforcement personnel
  • Process hit confirmations and respond to requests from internal personnel and external agencies
  • Clear, cancel, modify, and validate GCIC/NCIC entries in accordance with established procedures
  • Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for audits and compliance reviews
  • Prepare and organize files for GCIC audits and inspections
  • Submit Law Enforcement Data (LED) sheets and related documentation to the Records Division
  • Track arrest warrant receipts, service attempts, and dispositions
  • Ensure the security, integrity, and confidentiality of all records and information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, records management, administrative support, or a related field
  • Ability to obtain GCIC certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Proficiency with personal computers, data entry systems, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and follow detailed oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field
  • Current GCIC certification
  • Five (5) years of relevant law enforcement, records, or administrative experience
  • Specialized training or coursework related to GCIC operations, records management, or criminal justice information systems

Selection Process

Candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, which may include a criminal history review, polygraph examination, drug screening, physical examination, and any other assessments required by the Police Department.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of all pre-employment requirements.
