Job Overview
Sheriff Processing Associate I is the entry‑level position in the Sheriff Processing series and provides essential clerical and administrative support to the Sheriff’s Department. Responsibilities include performing receptionist, typing, data entry, and filing duties related to processing inmates into and out of the detention facility, assisting crime victims, and handling court‑related documentation.
Essential Duties- Processing and interpreting court documents, interviewing inmates to ensure they are processed into and released from the detention center, scheduling inmates for court appearances and transfers.
- Processing basic forms by reviewing for proper signature, ensuring fields are completed, verifying standard or basic data, and collecting fees; processing property and bonding company bonds when appropriate.
- Performing receptionist duties such as greeting and assisting customers, answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, and maintaining department and County phone numbers.
- Performing basic office duties, such as copying, filing, faxing, typing standard documents, preparing, sorting, and distributing mail, entering data, and running basic or standard reports.
- Maintaining paper and electronic logs, forms, files, and other documents, preparing items for storage or destruction, and assisting in maintaining the security and confidentiality of applicable information.
- Assisting departments, external customers, and outside agencies concerning the status of inmates and/or court documents; assisting with Georgia Crime Information Center and the National Crime Information Center (GCIC/NCIC) research and inspecting incoming mail and packages for contraband.
- Performing other duties of a similar nature or level.
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of customer service experience preferably in a detention center and/or jail.
- Must obtain a Notary Public and GCIC/NCIC certification within one year of employment.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Pre‑employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- Public safety background which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
- May require on‑call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
Grade: A132. Salary will be dependent on education and experience. Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
