Job Title:

Swilley Library Public Services Student Assistant

Responsibilities
  • Assist students and faculty with basic library tasks, such as book searches and logging into library resources from off campus.
  • Direct users who require more in‑depth assistance to Research Services or other library help sources.
  • Provide basic support with technology and software, including identifying available software on library computers and performing basic printer maintenance (paper jams, replenishment, toner installation).
  • Handle circulation duties: book check‑in and check‑out, equipment check‑in and check‑out, and processing of courier packages.
  • Answer library phones, direct calls, and take messages.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the library by arranging chairs, cleaning white boards, and wiping down surfaces and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a presence in the library during the shift, observe for user needs and library operation, and monitor compliance with library rules.
  • Perform hourly patron count.
  • Enforce library rules; when rules are not followed, inform patrons and refer further problems to the Student Employee Supervisor and Library Assistants.
  • Keep book collection and other library materials orderly using the LC Classification system and the library catalog.
  • Participate in special and general library projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be a Mercer student in good standing.
  • Ability to work well with the public.
  • Strong accuracy in completing tasks and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computers and applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) is essential.
  • Previous library experience is preferred.
  • Nights and weekend availability wanted.

Pay rate: $10.00 per hour –
Scheduled

Hours:

20 per week

Start Date: 03/31/2026 –
End Date: 05/01/2027
