Job Summary:

TAG is seeking a highly organized, thoughtful, and detail-driven Scientific Clearance Specialist/Analyst to support scientific clearance activities for a federal public health client. This mid-level professional will help manage the review and approval of CDC clearance actions, including funding, protocols, publications, and related scientific materials, in accordance with agency and division standard operating procedures. The ideal candidate understands that successful scientific clearance requires more than moving documents through a workflow.

It requires sound judgment, responsive stakeholder coordination, careful review, accurate tracking, and the ability to keep multiple actions progressing in a fast-paced environment. This role is well suited for a professional who enjoys bringing order to complex processes and helping scientific teams move important work forward with quality and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the review and approval of CDC clearance actions, including funding, protocol, publication, and other scientific program actions, in accordance with agency and division Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain the shared clearance functional mailbox and accurately log, track, organize, and route all submissions received.
  • Conduct intake activities for all clearance actions, verifying completeness, required documentation, and compliance with established requirements before routing items for review.
  • Manage a portfolio of concurrent clearance actions from intake through final disposition, maintaining accurate status information and identifying items requiring follow-up or escalation.
  • Coordinate with scientific staff, program leads, leadership, external partners, and other stakeholders to resolve questions, obtain missing information, and prevent delays.
  • Apply working knowledge of Institutional Review Board processes and the eClearance system to guide submitters, address documentation gaps, and keep actions moving through the approval process.
  • Support scientific ethics activities and help ensure clearance actions align with applicable ethical, regulatory, agency, and division requirements.
  • Draft, review, and edit internal and external communications, SOPs, guidance, correspondence, and other program materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Prepare status reports, trackers, summaries, and briefing materials that provide leadership and program teams with visibility into workload, clearance status, risks, and emerging issues.
  • Schedule and manage Microsoft Teams and Zoom meetings supporting clearance activities, including agenda coordination, materials preparation, note taking, and follow-up actions.
  • Analyze workflow issues, identify risks and bottlenecks, and recommend practical improvements to strengthen clearance operations.
  • Handle sensitive, confidential, and pre-decisional information with discretion, professionalism, and close attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience performing tasks as outlined above.
  • Prior experience supporting a CDC division, HHS operating division, or other federal public health agency.
  • Experience managing high-volume review workflows, functional mailboxes, clearance trackers, or document approval processes.
  • Familiarity with CDC scientific clearance requirements, terminology, or operating environments is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a client-facing or task-order support role within a government contracting environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, timeliness, and client service.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Clearance submissions are complete, accurately tracked, and advanced through the review process with minimal avoidable delay.
  • Stakeholders receive timely, clear, and professional communication about requirements, status, and next steps.
  • Potential issues are identified early, documentation is reliable, and leadership has confidence in the integrity of the clearance process.
  • You become a trusted partner to the client and TAG team by combining responsiveness, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to the mission.
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance
