Plan and oversee the research administration of large and/or complex research programs and projects within a department or school. Includes supervision of program/project related financial accounting and reporting, coordination of proposal preparation and submissions, event planning and management, and general research administration support. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.
This position will interact on a consistent basis with: department leadership, research program/project managers and faculty, Institute financial management program sponsors.
This position typically will advise and counsel: department leadership, program/project management.
This position may supervise:
Assigned Staff.
- Job Duty 1 - Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives and best practices in research administration to support the university's research goals and objectives
- Job Duty 2 - Direct assignments for lower level administrative and research support staff; train staff on policies, procedures, and best practices
- Job Duty 3 - Oversee budgets associated with assigned programs/projects to include tracking expenses and preparing budget reports
- Job Duty 4 - Organize and facilitate pre- and post-award proposal processes, including data collection, routing, editing, compliance, oversight, renewals and extensions, deliverables, billing questions, award closeout, and interface with sponsors
- Job Duty 5 - Direct event logistics for large scale, multi-site program related symposia, workshops, meetings, and other events
- Job Duty 6 - Lead cross-functional or inter-departmental working groups to resolve complex agreement issues; assess and mitigate risks associated
- Job Duty 7 - Partner and advise leadership on program-related data for sponsor reporting
- Job Duty 8 - Serve as unit-level expert and owner of department research administration. Identify opportunities and implement solutions for improvement and optimization
- Job Duty 9 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
