Overview
The City of College Park Department of Recreation and Cultural Arts is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Summer Day Camp Managers for the Hugh
C. Conley, Tracey Wyatt, and Wayman & Bessie Brady Recreation Centers, to provide a safe, fun, and memorable camp experience for children aged 6 to 12.
A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The Department of Recreation and Cultural Arts strives to provide each participant with a safe, fun, and high-quality experience. The purpose of the position is to assist with the planning, organization, supervision, and implementation of a daily activity schedule for camp participants while creating a positive, supportive, creative, and safe learning environment during the day camp programs.
Responsibilities- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the camp program.
- Maintain camp schedule of activities and maintain inventory of camp supplies.
- Provides direct oversight for all aspects of camp.
- Assist with planning, organizing, and facilitating all camp staff meetings.
- Lead and facilitate camp schedule of activities; make recommendations regarding the purchase of supplies for camp; maintain inventory of camp supplies.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the camp program and staff.
- Responsible for ensuring that staff and day camp participants adhere to all rules, policies, and procedures established for the safety and security of the participants.
- Ensures Camp Counselors initiate and follow age-appropriate lessons, activities, games, and crafts, as needed for children between the ages of 6-12.
- Coordinate set-up and cleanup of camp including group area/location assessment and schedule; monitor cleanliness of facility and ensure that routine daily cleaning is performed by staff.
- Assisting with light-duty cleaning, and the setup and breakdown of tables and chairs.
- Adheres to camp policies and procedures and ensures staff and camper compliance.
- Act as a positive role model for counselors; assistant camp managers and campers; administer counselor and camper disciplinary procedures, when warranted.
- Establish and maintain a good rapport with all parents, children, and staff. Greet parents as they drop off and pick up their children.
- Inform parents of any conduct problems or accidents that might have occurred during the program reported to them by Camp Counselors.
- Follow established procedures for reporting accidents/incidents; handle medical, safety, and severe weather emergencies per the procedures noted in the camp staff manual and during in-service training.
- Maintain and monitor accurate records and forms such as camp staff timesheets, camper attendance (sign-in and sign-out sheets), behavioral incidents, accident/incident reports, parental communication, and medical issues and submit them to the Center Supervisor; participate in parent conferences as needed.
- Responsible for learning all pertinent information for each child (allergies, special needs, etc.).
- Participates in in-service training as required.
- Maintains positive relationships with parents, campers, and staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
This is not a desk job. The Camp Manager is expected to take an active, hands-on role in the daily operation of the camp -- interacting regularly with participants, parents, and staff to provide a high-quality experience for all parties. Activity areas include indoor and outdoor games, sports, fitness activities, arts and crafts, on and off-site enrichment programs, and field trips;
as well as group breakfast, lunches, and snack time.

. - Must be able to attend mandatory Camp Staff orientation/training scheduled on Tuesday, May 26th, from 9 AM to 2 PM
. - Applicant must feel comfortable working around/in water.
- Knowledge of camp principles, child-development techniques, and methods of maintaining and using recreation equipment.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Must be able to use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.
- Must be able to analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes and exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and deal effectively and courteously with others, to work independently and in team settings.
- Must be able to type or use a personal computer with word processing and related software, and to enter and retrieve information with reasonable speed and accuracy.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds, standing, sitting, and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
