Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting in the general business operations of the company by analyzing and negotiating contracts and other agreements to ensure the interests of the Company are safeguarded, while understanding and helping to achieve business objectives. Additionally, this position serves as a resource to staff and managers to provide contracts counsel and support.

Education & Experience include:

* Degree in Risk Management, Law, Business Administration, or related field.

* Minimum of 7 years of relevant contracts experience, including experience in the construction industry.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

* Experience leading contract negotiations with a track record of achieving business objectives.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Required will include:

* Ability to review and negotiate construction contracts (owner and sub) as well as other agreements.

* Strong knowledge of legal terms and methodologies, contract provisions, and risk analysis.

* Knowledge and understanding of construction legal terms, the internal operations of a construction design-build general contractor, the construction industry, and the local construction market.

* Ability to analyze and mitigate risk, maximize profitability, and successfully balance the needs and expectations of the Company's operations team/business unit and the client while maintaining Alston Construction's standards and reputation.

* Strong negotiation skills and the ability to articulate complex information.

* Excellent critical thinking skills, reading comprehensive skills and attention to detail.

* Ability to define problems, research and collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make timely decisions.

* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret laws, regulations and codes.

* Creative problem-solver; ability to view a situation from multiple angles, brainstorm possible solutions, and to effectively balance meeting business objectives with mitigating risk.

* High level of maturity and judgment; ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality of information.

* Excellent skills in organization, time management, planning, and prioritization.

* Proactive and readily adaptable to change and ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines.

* Strong analytical skills.

* Ability to handle stress and stressful situations.

* Effective and influential communication skills (written and verbal) and presentation skills.

* Professional demeanor and effective interpersonal skills; ability to successfully interface with and maintain good working relationships with clients, corporate level executives, stakeholders, financial decision-makers, co-workers, subcontractors, vendors, and others; ability to foster collaborative relationships.

* Skilled at active listening techniques. Gathers appropriate information before taking action and encourages others to listen and check before acting. Communications are tactful, diplomatic, and influential.

* Good working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Physical Demands:

* Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, balance, and reach and lift 10 lbs.

* Extensive computer use and reading from documents and computer. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
