Position OverviewThe Senior Estimator plays a critical role in the successful delivery of commercial construction projects by developing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates. This position is responsible for analyzing project documentation, assessing risk, and pricing all phases of construction from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission. The Senior Estimator partners closely with project managers, superintendents, and leadership to optimize cost strategies while upholding quality, schedule, and constructability standards.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and related documents to determine quantities, scope, and pricing across all trades.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for self-performed work across multiple construction types.
- Prepare accurate estimates for self-performed and subcontracted work, ensuring all project components are fully captured.
- Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for scope alignment, pricing accuracy, and completeness.
- Coordinate with bidders to clarify scope, resolve discrepancies, and finalize pricing prior to inclusion in proposals.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks, and site visits to evaluate existing conditions and project constraints.
- Develop budgets at various stages of design, including conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documents.
- Create pricing strategies that support competitive bidding while protecting profitability.
- Participate in value engineering and constructability reviews, identifying cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies.
- Prepare and deliver estimate presentations for internal teams, owners, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project managers and field leadership during project handoff to ensure continuity of scope and budget.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to proposal pricing and bid strategy discussions.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience estimating commercial construction projects.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction materials, methods, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with estimating software and standard construction technology tools.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
