High School: Summer Internship Position

This is a high school PAID summer internship position, for students currently enrolled in high school, typically a rising senior, who are 17 years or older and are interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry. This is a Full-Time employment commitment, and students may be expected to work some nights and weekends. Students selected, will work for C.W. Matthews for 8 WEEKS getting valuable exposure in the heavy highway construction trade.

- Students that are selected MUST have:

* A driver's license

* A dependable vehicle to get them to the job site every day.

* A desire for a career in the construction industry.

* A strong work ethic and a GREAT attitude.

* A willingness to work some nights and weekends.

* A teacher recommendation (preferably from construction/trades/CTAE teacher)

If an intern works more than 40 hours in a week, they will get paid time and a half for every hour worked over 40 hours.

Selected applicants will be placed in one of the company's operating divisions to begin their training in heavy highway construction.

We will work around family summer vacations. However, vacation dates must be submitted on day of interview.

The duties of this position are continually changing depending on the requirements of each project. The position consist of but is not limited to the following duties.

* Set up and maintenance of erosion control.

* Loading and unloading of materials.

* Shoveling and raking dirt, gravel, and asphalt.

* General clean up around job site.

* Checking and maintaining grade stakes.

* Set up and maintenance of all traffic control aids.

* Operating small equipment such as rollers, power brooms and skid steers.

* General maintenance of all equipment and tools.

The above listed duties require periods of standing, walking, stooping and bending. Position requires periodic lifting of up to 50 pounds. The job duties described herein are not exhaustive and may be supplemented. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/V/H
