Traveling Construction Materials Technician Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our dynamic team. This role is primarily responsible for conducting quality assurance field testing of various construction materials including soil, concrete, masonry, asphalt, and geosynthetics. The position involves performing inspections, monitoring contractor activities, and compiling daily reports. Flexibility is essential as work hours may vary and include weekends. This position is eligible for Overtime pay.
ProjectWe are supporting a major infrastructure client in the Virgin Islands to rebuild damaged infrastructure from the hurricane events of last year. We need a CMT technician able to travel for extended periods to the Virgin Islands for 2-3 years of project work. We set up housing for you, provide a per diem, and a company vehicle. You will typically work 6-8 weeks onsite and then are rotated back home for a week before returning back to the site.
Responsibilities- Conduct field testing of construction materials such as soil, concrete, masonry, asphalt, and geosynthetics.
- Perform inspections and monitor contractor activities to ensure quality standards.
- Compile daily reports on construction activities and test results.
- Assist engineers and other professionals with various testing and project-specific observations.
- Operate equipment to conduct tests and assessments, and report data accurately.
- Work from drawings, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and specific verbal and written instructions.
- Observe site activities, take samples, and perform tests using specific methods.
- Valid driver's license.
- ACI Certification Level 1 - Field Testing.
- 2-5+ years experience in Construction Materials Testing (CMT).
- Concrete experience is a must.
- Soils experience is a big plus.
- Willingness to travel 6-8 weeks at a time with housing and per diem covered by us.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certificates such as NICET, RTT, GSWCC, ICC, OSHA 10 Hour Construction, OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER, and Nuclear Gauge Certification are a plus.
- Strong dependability and flexibility are crucial.
The position is based on-site, typically outdoors, and involves working 5-6 days a week with shifts ranging from 8 to 12 hours. Flexibility is crucial, as shifts may include early mornings, nights, and weekends, often depending on project demands. Employees may work solo or in crews, and job duties can change daily. A company truck and fuel card are provided as a privilege, allowing transport between home and job sites.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
