The Onsite Safety Specialist is responsible for monitoring and enforcing safety compliance on commercial drywall construction sites. This position ensures all field activities are performed in accordance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. The role supports a culture of safety through inspections, training, documentation, and collaboration with field personnel and site leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts routine and targeted safety inspections of job sites to identify hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company safety protocols.
- Leads safety orientations for new employees and conducts daily and weekly safety meetings, including toolbox talks.
- Monitors use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe work practices among field crews.
- Assists in accident or incident investigations, including root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Maintains accurate safety records, including inspection reports, training logs, and incident documentation.
- Partners with project management and field leadership to reinforce jobsite safety expectations and stop unsafe work when necessary.
- Provides ongoing coaching and support to promote safe behavior and increase safety awareness.
- Stays current with changes in safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction safety; experience in drywall or related trades preferred.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA, federal, state, and local safety laws and regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain detailed documentation.
- Must be able to walk, stand, climb, and navigate construction sites in various weather conditions.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- OSHA 510, STSC or CHST
- Must be able to walk, stand, and move around construction job sites for extended periods of time.
- Frequent climbing, bending, reaching, and kneeling may be required.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and terrain.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, and steel-toed boots.
- May be exposed to construction noise, dust, and other environmental hazards commonly found on active job sites.
