The Safety Manager is responsible for supporting and leading health, safety, and risk management activities across active data center construction and commissioning operations. This role is one level above a Safety Professional and requires a stronger level of field ownership, technical safety knowledge, and the ability to support high-risk work within mission critical construction environments.
The ideal candidate will have direct data center safety experience and a strong understanding of LOTO, hazardous energy control, commissioning safety, electrical safety, MEP construction, and high-risk activity planning. This individual will work closely with site leadership, construction teams, commissioning personnel, trade partners, and senior safety leadership to ensure all work is planned and executed safely while meeting OSHA requirements, project standards, and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities Field Safety Management- Support day-to-day safety operations across active data center construction and commissioning activities
- Lead and participate in field inspections, safety audits, hazard assessments, and corrective action follow-up
- Reinforce stop-work authority and promote proactive hazard recognition throughout the project site
- Support and monitor LOTO / hazardous energy control activities, including field verification and compliance documentation
- Provide safety oversight for commissioning, energization, startup, testing, and MEP-related construction activities
- Energized electrical work
- Temporary power installations
- Mechanical systems work
- Crane and lift operations
- Confined space activities
- Partner with construction, commissioning, electrical, mechanical, and subcontractor teams to identify and mitigate risks before work begins
- Review and support:
- Pre-task plans
- JSAs/JHAs/AHAs
- High-risk work plans
- Participate in daily briefings, commissioning coordination meetings, and project planning discussions
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned
- Ensure compliance with:
- OSHA 1926 & OSHA 1910
- NFPA 70E
- Site-specific safety standards
- Client safety requirements
- Inspection reports
- Training logs
- Audit findings
- Communicate safety trends, risks, and corrective action needs to project leadership and senior safety management
- Prior data center construction safety experience required
- Experience supporting electrical, mechanical, MEP, commissioning, or mission critical construction scopes
- Strong understanding of:
- Energized work controls
- Field-level OSHA compliance
- Ability to identify safety risks within active construction environments
- Strong communication and coordination skills with field teams, subcontractors, and project leadership
- OSHA 30 Construction
- First Aid / CPR / AED Certification
- CHST, OHST, GSP, CSP, or related safety credentials
- NFPA 70E training or electrical safety experience
- Experience supporting:
- Commissioning activities
- Energization procedures
- LOTO coordination
- Energy Marshal programs
- Experience on hyperscale or large-scale data center campuses
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on Safety Manager with direct data center construction experience who can confidently support field safety execution, LOTO compliance, commissioning safety, and high-risk electrical and mechanical work. This individual should be proactive, detail‑oriented, field‑oriented, and capable of partnering effectively with both craft labor and project leadership to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient project execution.
