About the Role:

The Contracts Specialist plays a critical role in managing and overseeing all contractual aspects within the construction industry to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and support project success. This position is responsible for drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and administering contracts with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders. The Contracts Specialist ensures that all agreements align with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards while facilitating clear communication between parties.

By proactively identifying potential contractual issues and resolving disputes, this role helps maintain strong business relationships and protects the organization’s interests. Ultimately, the Contracts Specialist contributes to the smooth execution of construction projects by providing expert contract management and support throughout the project lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in contract management within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, including AIA, Consensus Docs, or equivalent standard forms.
  • Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification such as Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM) or equivalent.
  • Experience with risk management and dispute resolution in construction projects.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local construction regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Advanced negotiation skills and experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in a large-scale construction or engineering firm.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts including construction agreements, subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
  • Collaborate with project managers, legal counsel, procurement, and finance teams to ensure contract terms are clear, enforceable, and aligned with project goals.
  • Monitor contract compliance and performance, identifying and addressing any deviations or risks promptly.
  • Maintain accurate and organized contract records and documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on contract policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support dispute resolution efforts by investigating claims, coordinating with legal advisors, and facilitating negotiations.
  • Stay current with industry regulations, legal developments, and construction standards to ensure contracts remain compliant.

The Contracts Specialist utilizes their expertise in contract law and construction industry standards daily to draft and negotiate agreements that protect the company’s interests while fostering positive partnerships. Strong analytical skills are applied to review contract terms, identify risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
