Overview:
The Axel Group is seeking a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer for our client's team. This opportunity is with a well-established general contractor specializing in large-scale, technically complex construction projects. The role involves working on a multi-year life sciences project that includes sophisticated laboratory, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and specialty building systems. Responsibilities:
- Support project management, field supervision, and leadership in day-to-day project execution
- Manage and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other documentation
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and subcontractor scopes
- Assist with change orders, scope revisions, and change management
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, design teams, consultants, and field personnel
- Maintain project logs and monitor outstanding RFIs, submittals, procurement, and design issues
- Support subcontractor buyout, procurement, material tracking, and long-lead equipment
- Assist with coordination of architectural, structural, MEP, controls, and specialty building systems
- Participate in project meetings with subcontractors, owners, and design teams
- Update schedules and track critical project activities
- Work with field teams to resolve constructability and coordination issues
- Support permitting, inspections, testing, commissioning, turnover, and closeout activities
- Maintain accurate project documentation and facilitate communication between office and field teams
- Contribute to quality control efforts to ensure work aligns with plans and specifications
- Develop strong working relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in commercial construction, with preference for life sciences, laboratories, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or mission-critical projects
- Proven experience as a Project Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
- Experience in coordinating subcontractors and managing multiple project scopes
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment
- Knowledge of commissioning, startup, turnover, or specialty building systems is a plus
- Proficiency with tools like Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk, or similar construction management platforms
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred but not required based on experience
Compensation:
Salary range up to $150,000 annually
