Superintendent (Commercial Construction)
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for commercial building projects. The Superintendent will be responsible for delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget by coordinating craft labor, subcontractors, materials, inspections, and client communications while maintaining high standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily on-site construction activities and ensure work is executed according to plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, tradespeople, and site personnel to optimize productivity and maintain schedule progress.
- Implement and enforce safety programs, conduct daily safety briefings, and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
- Review construction drawings and specifications; identify and resolve constructability issues, RFIs, and coordination conflicts with design team and subcontractors.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, track milestones, and prepare regular progress reports for project management and clients.
- Manage on-site quality control by performing inspections, overseeing testing, and correcting defective work to meet company and industry standards.
- Coordinate procurement, delivery, and storage of materials and equipment to avoid delays and minimize waste.
- Monitor labor productivity and site costs; report budget variances and recommend corrective actions to project management.
- Conduct site meetings with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors; document meeting minutes and action items.
- Mentor and coach foremen and field staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable jobsite culture.
- Ensure all work complies with local building codes, permit requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Close out projects by coordinating final inspections, punch lists, turnover documentation, and as-built records.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects; proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget.
- Working knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, means and methods, and sequencing.
- Proficient reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills with the ability to motivate field teams and work with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience with construction management and scheduling software (e.g., Procore, Plan Grid, MS Project, Primavera) and common office tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety; OSHA 30-Hour certification required or willing to obtain;
First Aid/CPR preferred. - Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, with strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; ability to travel to multiple job sites as required.
- Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred but not required; equivalent field experience accepted.
- Familiarity with building codes, permit processes, and quality assurance procedures for commercial construction projects.
