Position Summary
As a key member of the ID3 Group's Design team, the CAD Detailer is responsible for developing highly accurate and buildable shop drawings from design intent documents. CAD Detailers collaborate across departments to support the successful execution of custom scenic, experiential, and architectural fabrication projects. This position requires an expert-level understanding of drafting software, production techniques, and the ability to anticipate build needs from a design and fabrication perspective.
Key Responsibilities- Convert design intent drawings and 3D models into complete and accurate 2D shop drawings for fabrication.
- Ensure production drawings meet the practical needs of shop teams, including build sequence, material specifications, and hardware.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Designers, and Fabrication Leads to review scope and resolve build challenges.
- Generate detailed part files, exploded views, cut lists, and material take-offs aligned with production workflow.
- Apply construction knowledge to ensure safety, durability, and efficiency in fabricated elements.
- Participate in project kickoff, review, and handoff meetings to ensure alignment across departments.
- Maintain version control and drawing revision logs for all assigned projects.
- Meet internal drafting milestones and respond quickly to redlines and change requests.
- Contribute to improving department standards, templates, and drawing practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of CAD drafting experience within a custom fabrication, scenic, or architectural production environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required; experience with Rhino, Solid Works, Revit, or Sketch Up is highly preferred.
- Millwork experience required; CNC programming experience is a strong plus.
- Strong working knowledge of materials including wood, metal, foam, and acrylics, as well as related fabrication methods.
- Ability to interpret design intent from concepts and models and translate them into accurate, build‑ready construction drawings.
- Solid understanding of standard hardware, structural components, and scenic construction practices.
- Self‑motivated with strong problem‑solving abilities and effective time management skills.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Office-based role with regular communication with shop floor and project teams.
- May require occasional visits to the production floor or client site for design clarification.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods and manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
