Here at Piedmont Healthcare, we seek an experienced and visionary Transplant Pulmonology Medical Director to co‑lead the establishment of a new lung transplant program at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital alongside the Lung Transplant Surgical Director. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to build and direct a comprehensive lung transplant service, enhance patient care, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to improve outcomes for patients with advanced lung disease.
The successful candidate will establish and co‑manage all aspects of the program, from patient evaluations to post‑transplant care and follow‑up.
- Lead the initiation and development of a state‑of‑the‑art lung transplant program, including establishing clinical protocols, guidelines, and operational workflows.
- Oversee all aspects of clinical care for lung recipients, including pre‑transplant evaluations, post‑transplant follow‑up, and management of complications.
- Provide high‑quality, compassionate care to patients with advanced lung disease, ensuring a patient‑centered approach throughout the transplant process.
- Work collaboratively with transplant surgeons, cardiologists, thoracic surgeons, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to create a cohesive and effective transplant team.
- Implement quality and monitor quality improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with national transplant standards and optimizing patient outcomes.
- Develop and implement educational programs for medical staff regarding lung transplantation and advanced pulmonary care.
- Engage and promote clinical research initiatives related to lung transplantation, including participation in clinical trials and other scholarly activities to advance the field.
- Foster relationships with referring physicians and community organizations to raise awareness of the new lung transplant program and improve patient access to care.
- Participate in the administrative oversight of the program, including budgeting, staffing, and policy development, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and objectives.
- Must meet OPTN bylaws for Primary Lung Transplant Physician requirements (Appendix I, pg. 173‑179).
