Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
- The incumbent should, in the context of a longitudinal relationship, fulfill all hematology and oncology medical needs in addition to immediate general medical needs – including acute and chronic illness, gender‑specific (pelvic – breast – and pap smears), mental health, and preventive care – along with coordination of care delivery.
- The Hematology/Oncology Practitioner is accountable to the Chief – Medical Specialty Care Service.
- Nurse practitioners and physician assistants serve as specialty providers and consultants to panels of veterans with hematological and oncological conditions in VISN 7.
- Given the volume and complexity of medical problems found in the population of veterans using VA facilities, adequate supervision of nurse practitioners and physician assistants is necessary to ensure proper decision making toward the goal of optimal patient outcome.
- Nurse practitioners and physician assistants caring for cancer patients will have access to a physician from whom timely supervision is expected.
- All information is entered into the Computer Patient Record System (CPRS) by this Practitioner.
- He/she will strive to accomplish the set goals for cancer care as well as complex hematological conditions as outlined for this facility.
- He/she will strive to consistently meet all of the performance measures for hematology/oncology specialty service.
- Work Schedule:
Part Time – Monday to Friday – 20 hours per week. - The service may consider filling this position as part-time or full-time based on the needs of the department.
