B. Key Responsibilities

  • Identify abnormalities within breast tissue, distinguish between benign conditions and malignant tumors, and guide biopsy procedures when necessary.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, oncologists, and primary care doctors to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Provide essential consultations to clarify diagnostic findings, discuss potential treatment paths, and alleviate patient concerns.
  • Contribute significantly to advancing breast health outcomes and fostering informed, patient‑centered care.
  • Detect and diagnose breast conditions at their earliest stages but also play an essential role in the ongoing monitoring and management of breast health, thereby enhancing patients' quality of life and survival rates.
  • Responsible for providing general and interventional radiology procedures, including, but not limited to diagnostic radiology, CT scans, MRI and ultrasounds.
  • Communicate test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients.
  • Provide consultation with and instruction to referring physicians regarding appropriate indications from general radiology films, ultrasound, CT, MRI and interventional radiology procedures for expeditious and clinically appropriate work‑up.
  • Follow all established medication policies and procedures.
  • Stay current with advancements in radiology and imaging technology through continuous education and professional development.
  • Participate in training and education of medical residents and staff on radiological practices and imaging interpretations.
  • Oversee the mammography program and assure daily compliance with imaging quality standards.
  • Ensure the mammography program follows and meets all requirements as set forth by the ACR, FDA/VHA and MQSA.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of imaging interpretations and patient interactions in compliance with legal and institutional policies.
  • Provide discharge education and follow‑up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned client‑specified requirements for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

  • Board Certification from the American Board of Radiology.
