Position: Permanent Substitute Teacher

Summary

The Permanent Substitute Teaching position is a full-time, 10-month faculty role. The individual is hired by the Principal, and reports additionally to the Academic Dean.

Scope or Responsibility

In the absence of the teacher of record, the Permanent Substitute Teacher ensures continuity of instruction and fosters a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment. The substitute implements lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the teacher of record to support the intended course of study. Additionally, the substitute is responsible for upholding school policies, monitoring student behavior, and keeping students engaged and on task.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Implement the program of study outlined in the lesson plans provided by the teacher of record.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that promotes learning by ensuring safety, order, and respect.
  • Fulfill supervisory duties typically assigned to the absent teacher (e.g., cafeteria, activity period).
  • Understand and follow the Emergency Action Plan, responding appropriately in the event of an emergency.
  • Interact professionally with students, colleagues, and parents in accordance with the Boundaries Policy.
  • Demonstrate professional standards in dress, conduct, and communication.
  • Be present in the classrooms or other assigned area during scheduled times (8:00 a.m.–3:40 p.m.) and at other times as directed by the Principal.
  • Accurately record and report daily student attendance.
  • Participate in required meetings (departmental, faculty, etc.) as assigned.
  • Attend and supervise students during school masses, assemblies, and other school wide events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. Transcripts must be submitted.
  • Teaching experience in a Catholic or an independent school is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) references.
  • A completed background check.
  • A completed drug and illegal substances screen.
