Overview

Augusta University College of Nursing invites applications for a full‑time, 12‑month Chair of the Department of Nursing Science. The College of Nursing is the state’s flagship nursing program, enrolling more than 1,000 students on two campuses and at numerous academic‑practice partner sites. It is an integral component of Augusta University and the University System of Georgia and part of the state’s only publicly funded comprehensive academic health science center, including schools of medicine, dentistry, and allied health sciences.

The College of Nursing is adjacent to Wellstar Medical College of Georgia Health, Children’s Hospital of Georgia, Georgia Cancer Center, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center, providing ample opportunity for clinical experiences for students and faculty. The college offers the full degree spectrum, including BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs. The Department Chair provides administrative leadership for the Department, aligning with the College of Nursing mission and strategic plan and supporting research strategic plans.

This position is part of the College of Nursing Administrative Team and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing. It is an administrative faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor and is tenured.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the College of Nursing Administrative Team to support the research mission of the College of Nursing and Augusta University.
  • Contribute to the College of Nursing strategic planning process.
  • Actively recruit research‑intensive faculty for the College of Nursing.
  • Foster a culture of research and scholarly engagement.
  • Ensure administrative support for the PhD in Nursing program, including ensuring adequate faculty availability and working collaboratively with the PhD Program Director.
  • Serve as the primary mentor for College of Nursing Tenure‑Track faculty throughout their tenure trajectory and collaborate with other Department Chairs on workload allocations and start‑up funding advice.
  • Mentor tenured and other research‑active faculty throughout the promotion process and provide post‑tenure support.
  • Assist in the recommendation of appointments, reappointments, and promotions.
  • Model leadership in research and scholarly work through active engagement with national and international professional organizations, attending key conferences, presenting own research, and maintaining current knowledge of extramural funding trends.
  • Supervise faculty and staff and manage assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain own program of scholarship and research.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD.
  • Active license to practice nursing in the state of Georgia or meet all eligibility requirements to apply for a nursing license in Georgia.
  • Academic teaching, administrative, and leadership experience.
  • Experience with technology‑infused engaging pedagogical strategies.
  • Background commensurate with the Associate Professor level or above.
  • Evidence of contribution to the profession and recognition at the national level.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven success in securing and maintaining external funding through independent efforts.
  • Experience mentoring faculty in grant writing and project development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage research teams, labs, or interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Experience in fostering collaborations across departments, institutions, or with industry partners.
Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended full‑time equivalent (FTE) is 1.0. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, subject to the availability of funds. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, 13 paid holidays, vacation leave, sick leave, generous retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options, and additional benefits. Full‑time employees employed more than 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
