The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a federal work study student in the Recreational Sports department on the Dahlonega campus. This person is responsible for maintaining a welcoming environment and safe at the climbing wall, Pine Valley Ropes Course, equipment rental store, and outdoor trips and clinics. Campus Recreation and Wellness is a healthy, friendly work atmosphere and accommodates student schedules.
Uniforms are required. This position is subject to semester GPA and conduct checks. Campus Recreation and Wellness is committed to supporting the academic and personal success of students and will refer students to support resources as needed.
- Outdoor Pursuits Staff oversee and spend time working in or at an equipment rental office, climbing wall, Pine Valley Challenge Course;
Provide high quality customer service to patrons/participants;
Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment to patrons;
Supervise Outdoor Pursuits areas (climbing wall, equipment rental office, and Pine Valley);
Enforce all policies and procedures; utilize Microsoft Office applications;
Log usage, maintain, clean, organize, and repair equipment;
Responds to emergencies in a tactful manner; work special events, clinics, or trips as needed.
- Applicants must attend staff trainings/meetings; have a willingness to work flexible hours of at least 5-8 hours per week;
In addition to the 5-8 hours a week, with some hours varying based on season and reservations, applicants must also be willing to work special events, clinics, and trips;
Applicants must exhibit effective organizational and leadership skills as well as strong communication skills;
Applicants should have an enthusiastic and professional approach to the occupation;
Applicants must have the ability to pass a written and practical exam (training provided), Applicants must prove to either have or be able to learn a base knowledge in knot tying, belaying and technical rope skills Must have current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or obtain within 30 days of employment).
- Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
