Salary: $42,328 per year

Open Hand SNAP-ED program is focused on the low-income population in Georgia who are at risk of hunger and are more susceptible to obesity and other behavior based risk factors and diseases. The Bilingual SNAP-ED Coordinator and Instructor will support the mission of Open Hand/Atlanta providing nutrition education with SNAP-ED’s evidence-based curricula and cooking demonstrations around Metro-Atlanta and beyond. The Bilingual SNAP-Ed Coordinator and Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering effective nutrition education programs—both in Spanish and English—for SNAP-eligible individuals of all ages, including youth (as young as 5 years old) through seniors (up to 100 years old).

This role is central to establishing and maintaining partnerships, particularly with Hispanic/Latino organizations, and ensuring lessons are culturally relevant and engaging for diverse audiences.

• Identify, cultivate, and maintain partnerships, especially with organizations serving the Hispanic/Latino community.
• Develop, plan, and teach interactive cooking and nutrition classes (approximately 12 per year) tailored for seniors, parents, youth, and the broader SNAP-eligible community.
• Translate and adapt educational handouts and recipes to Spanish, ensuring materials are clear, accurate, culturally appropriate, and written at an 8th grade reading level.
• Adjust recipes and nutrition lessons to reflect the cultural food preferences and traditions of your audience.
• Deliver lessons with enthusiasm, creativity, and a positive, engaging approach—making nutrition education both fun and impactful.
• Manage classroom logistics, maintain a welcoming environment for all participants, and organize cooking and teaching supplies.
• Assess program effectiveness: administer participant surveys, accurately input survey data, and provide feedback for ongoing program improvement.
• Attend health fairs and community events for outreach and networking.
• Tailor lesson content, delivery methods, and engagement strategies according to participant age, background, and needs.
• Occasionally work evenings and weekends as required for program delivery and outreach.

• Bilingual (Spanish/English) required;
  Spanish fluency strongly preferred.
• Strong cultural competency, especially with Latino/Hispanic communities.
• Ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, and economical backgrounds with various lifestyles and of all ages, including professional chefs, social service providers, volunteers, and low-income participants.
• Ability to perform simple math calculations as it applies to program reporting.
• Ability to solve practical problems and transfer current knowledge to new situations.
• Ability to enter data into a relational database, utilize Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to make public presentations.
• Requires ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team in group projects.
• Requires ability to effectively market a program and pursue outreach opportunities.

• Bachelor’s degree in health, culinary, or nutrition field, or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of local community services and resources/programs available to populations served by the program
• Experience translating and/or adapting educational materials, recipes, and handouts into Spanish.
• Experience teaching or presenting to diverse age groups, from young children to older adults.
• Comfortable networking and building relationships with local partners and organizations
