LOWER SCHOOL HOMEROOM TEACHER
Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, Ga., with an enrollment of 1,150 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. The Lower School division enrolls 360 students from Pre-First through fifth grade, with three homerooms of approximately 20 students at each grade level.
The Homeroom Teacher works with and supervises an Associate Teacher to provide a positive learning environment for every student. Teachers of our youngest students are highly skilled in how children learn to read, write and develop number sense while facilitating students’ academic, emotional and character development. The Lower School is characterized by joy in learning and in discovery amongst students and teachers. The Associate Teacher helps to manage the daily classroom tasks and has teaching and supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Homeroom Teacher. Successful candidates are eager to grow as educators and learn from the Homeroom Teacher, the leadership team and faculty.
The ideal candidate has been successful in a collaborative setting, exhibits good judgment and possesses excellent communication skills. Enthusiasm for teaching, especially young students, is a critical quality. Candidates should possess a wealth of patience, humor, energy and creativity and should work well within a team of teachers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is committed to the success of every student in the homeroom
With the grade-level teaching team, prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study
Mentors the Associate Teacher in all aspects of daily classroom life
Discusses and assigns teaching areas with the Associate Teacher to coordinate instructional efforts
Prepares lesson plans using various methods and techniques for all learners
Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching
Reports student progress in quarterly report cards for parents
Values the partnership with parents and communicates effectively with parents/caregivers in a timely manner
Leads parent-teacher conferences
Participates in regular faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops and is committed to sharing and discussing best practices with colleagues
Attends after-school faculty meetings, evening parent gatherings and weekend admissions events as necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three to five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level
An undergraduate or graduate degree in elementary education
Love of young children and their development
A positive outlook, flexibility and a collaborative, nurturing nature
Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills
Strong foundation in the methodologies of teaching core academic subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics and global studies
Proficient use of educational technology, including interactive whiteboards
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion practices

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Classroom environment that may regularly require the employee to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop or kneel
Ability to sit at a computer desk for an extended period
Ability to operate a computer, smart board and/or projector
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 30-50 lbs with assistance
