Atlanta Public Schools is looking for a highly qualified Special Education AUTISM Teacher. The candidate must be a motivated individual who has the ability to ensure student success through differentiated instruction. They must be able to create and maintain a climate that promotes respect, tolerance and peaceful problem solving for all students. Highly qualified candidates are professionals who are certified or have passed the appropriate GACE tests for certification in the subject areas listed below.

The district is seeking to hire teachers who are innovative, enthusiastic, and looking for the opportunity to prepare students for a successful future. This position reports to the School Principal and will be assigned to be physically present in the school building location.

Knowledge of general characteristics of children that are moderate, severe or profound intellectually disabled and other related services that may include special transportation, occupational, physical therapies speech, adapted physical education, and technology are required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Certification:
    • Minimum of SRT4-Certification in Adapted Curriculum Special Education AND ALL 5 of the Special Education Academic Content Areas (Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and English);
      OR
    • Passed the Adapted Curriculum Special Education AND the Special Education Academic Content Areas (Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and English).
    • Must hold the Georgia PSC issued Certificate of Eligibility if educator certification not issued in the state of Georgia.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree required with at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • Work Experience:
    • Work experience gained through education and certification/license requirements.
  • Available for face‑to‑face instruction within the school building with students present.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Instructs students with a moderate, severe, or profound intellectual disability through lectures, discussions, visual aids, and other effective teaching methods for student comprehension.
  • Prepares lessons and outlines to use in class that effectively cover the material.
  • Administers various types of assessments (performance assessments, formal and informal assessments, etc.) to monitor student progress and develop an Individualized Educational Plan.
  • Monitors students in the classroom and throughout the school to maintain order and discipline.
  • Performs various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and recording grades.
  • Coordinates parent/teacher conferences as needed to review student's performance, behavior and other issues.
  • Attends faculty meetings and training sessions.
  • Adheres to local, state and national testing procedures.
  • Instructs students in an in‑person classroom environment through lectures, discussions, visual aids, instructional strategies and other effective teaching methods for student comprehension.
  • Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Prepares, administers, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
  • Administers various types of assessments to monitor student's comprehension of the material.
  • Administers and/or supports state and local testing processes and policies.
  • Uses computers, audio‑visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
