Morris Brown College invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Faculty opportunity as a member of the Music Department. The successful candidate will report to the Department Chair of Music and will play a crucial role in supporting the goals and vision of the Academic Affairs Department, led by the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. OverviewTenure track, 12‑month full‑time role – 12 credit hour class course load, Fall and Spring semesters only, during the summer months duties and responsibilities may be performed remotely. This position includes academic advising duties and reports to the Department Chair of Music. Faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Full‑time faculty are expected to excel in classroom instruction and fulfill various responsibilities as active members of the college community.

- Instructor – An earned master’s degree in the field of appointment or its equivalent is required. The rank of instructor is probationary, with five years to show significant progress toward a terminal degree. Progress is monitored through annual evaluations by the immediate supervisor and students. An instructor who fails to show such progress at the end of the fifth year will not have his or her contract renewed.
- Assistant Professor – An earned doctorate or appropriate professional experience in the field of appointment or a related field is required. The degree must be earned from an accredited institution. Candidates with a doctorate in progress may be appointed on a probationary basis; probation terminates automatically upon completion of the doctorate, or can be terminated early for outstanding achievements in teaching or research.
- Associate Professor – An earned doctorate or appropriate professional experience in the field of appointment or a related field is required. The faculty member must show evidence of outstanding and continuous achievements as a teacher and scholar, with a minimum of three years of successful college‑level teaching experience at the rank of Assistant Professor.
- Professor – An earned doctorate or appropriate professional experience in the field of appointment or a related field is required. The faculty member must demonstrate post‑doctoral professional growth and a distinguished record of scholarship, with a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the rank of Associate Professor.
Job Duties
Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following expectations as seen in the TRACS accreditation requirements, board‑approved faculty handbook, administrative policies handbook, and state requirements with The Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission (GNPEC):
- Effectiveness in teaching, including student course evaluations, teaching awards, peer or department chair evaluations, and continuing education.
- Maintain faculty credentials as required by accrediting agencies.
- Select and develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning and use available instructional technology.
- Use a variety of proven methods of engagement and assessment to facilitate student mastery of content.
- Provide constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback.
- Evaluate student learning by creating and applying course competencies and accurately evaluating student progress.
Faculty must demonstrate deep subject knowledge and apply appropriate teaching and learning strategies. They should evaluate student learning, modify instructional methods, communicate subject matter clearly, provide timely feedback, meet scheduled classes, be accessible to students, prepare and distribute syllabi, maintain accurate academic records, respect confidentiality, and evaluate students based solely on academic performance.
