Description

OUR MISSION

Movement Schools is a growing network of free, public charter schools. We exist to love and value scholars and communities by leading a movement of excellence in education. In partnership with our families, we equip our scholars with the tools to close generational gaps through self-efficacy, access to world-class instruction, and financial education.

About This Role

Build Strong Bodies, Minds, and Character.

We are seeking a passionate, energetic, and mission-aligned K-5 Health & Physical Education Teacher to join our Georgia school community. This role is ideal for educators who believe elementary physical education is more than activity - it is a daily opportunity to build scholar confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and lifelong wellness habits during the years that movement habits are formed.

As a K-5 Health & PE Teacher, you will design and lead high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that engages every elementary scholar, regardless of athletic background. You'll create an inclusive, structured, and joyful environment where K-5 scholars develop foundational motor skills, health knowledge, social-emotional skills, and a love for movement. When not in session with scholars, you will support school-wide operations to keep our campus running smoothly.

What You'll Do

You'll lead instruction that develops the whole scholar - mind, body, and character.

As a K-5 Health & Physical Education Teacher, you will:
  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned K-5 Health & PE instruction grounded in the SHAPE America National Standards and the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Health and Physical Education
  • Build foundational physical literacy in K-5 scholars through developmentally appropriate instruction in gross motor skills, locomotor patterns, manipulative skills, fitness concepts, cooperative games, and beginning team and individual activities
  • Deliver age-appropriate health education content as part of Georgia's combined Health & PE program
  • Create a structured, safe, and inclusive environment where every scholar can participate and grow
  • Embed character development, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance into daily lessons
  • Assess scholar growth using fitness benchmarks, skill rubrics, and other formative tools
  • Differentiate instruction to support scholars with diverse abilities, including those with IEPs and 504 plans
  • Maintain equipment, facilities, and safety protocols in alignment with school and state standards
  • Support school-wide culture, arrival/dismissal duties, transitions, and family engagement events
  • Participate in coaching cycles, professional development, and grade-level planning
  • Support school-wide operations during non-instructional blocks - including arrival and dismissal duties, lunch and recess coverage, hallway transitions, family engagement events, and other operational needs as assigned
  • Build strong relationships with scholars, families, and staff
Who We're Looking For

We're looking for a passionate, creative, and mission-aligned educator who brings their content area to life for every scholar.

You'll thrive in this role if you:
  • Believe in the potential of every scholar and are committed to equity
  • Bring energy, creativity, and joy to your classroom every day
  • Are reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Communicate clearly and build positive relationships with scholars, families, and adults
  • Are coachable, reflective, and open to feedback
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
Required Qualifications

Your background and credentials meet Georgia's requirements to lead a Health & PE program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health & Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) Induction, Professional, or Provisional certificate in Health and Physical Education (P-12) - OR eligibility to obtain through GaPSC Pathway 1-4, including the GaTAPP (Georgia Teacher Academy of Preparation and Pedagogy) alternative pathway
  • Passing score on the GACE Health and Physical Education content assessment, or willingness to obtain prior to certification
  • Passing score on the GACE Ethics for Teachers Assessment
  • Compliance with GaPSC Rule 505-2-.42 - a valid Georgia Clearance Certificate (required for all charter school educators with direct student contact)
  • Completion of an FBI fingerprint-based criminal background check as required for employment in Georgia public, private, and charter schools
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
  • Commitment to Movement Schools' mission, values, and high expectations for all scholars
Preferred Qualifications

Experience or training that supports your readiness for a specialist role is a plus.
  • Prior teaching experience in an elementary (K-5) school setting
  • Experience coaching youth sports, after-school athletics, or community recreation programs
