This is a year-round open position for ongoing recruitment purposes.
Atlanta International School (AIS) offers the full International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum to all students, from 3K through grade 12.
AIS provides a rigorous education in a diverse, multicultural, multilinguistic community.
Position DescriptionInstructors are needed for the After school Heritage Language program in the following languages:
Greek, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, or Swahili. The teacher will lead a class composed of beginners and mixed ages (5 to 10 years old). The class group is small (3 to 8 students). Students have a cultural connection to the language but may not have language competency at the start of the course.
- Provide opportunities for use of oral language skills.
- Develop cultural connections (literary, musical, customary, etc.).
- Engage students’ families in the program to establish a bridge between school and home identity.
- Use and develop student reading and writing skills in context.
- Engage students through STEAM-based (science, art, etc.) problem‑solving activities once students have reached a level when they have developed basic communication skills.
- Native speaker of one of the following languages:
Greek, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, or Swahili (please specify which language in your application). - Experience working with elementary school‑aged children.
- Background in teaching or language acquisition desirable.
- Passionate about connecting language with culture; must be flexible, engaging, open‑minded and comfortable leading an active group of students in an inquiry‑based environment.
- 3–4 weekly afternoon hours from 3:00‑4:45 PM.
- Paid team meetings as needed.
- $50 per hour.
- Technology:
Zoom proficient. - Commitment signed each semester.
- COVID‑19 immunization proof or participation in regular testing required.
- Regular testing opportunities provided on campus.
