Director, Lovett Conservatory of Music What You'll DoInspire Individual Musical Growth
You'll provide personalized, one-on-one instruction on your instrument of expertise, meeting students at their current level and guiding them toward their goals - whether that's mastering fundamentals, refining technique, preparing for auditions, or developing artistry.
- Teach students across all grade levels (K-12) and skill levels (beginner through pre-collegiate)
- Assess each student's abilities, interests, and goals to create individualized lesson plans
- Foster a love of music while building technical proficiency and musicianship
- Prepare advanced students for collegiate-level performance, auditions, and competitions
You won't teach in isolation - you'll be part of Lovett's broader music community, working closely with ensemble directors and colleagues to ensure students receive cohesive, well-rounded musical education.
- Coordinate with Lower, Middle, and Upper School ensemble directors to align lesson content with ensemble curriculum
- Support students' participation in school concerts, recitals, and performances
- Participate in Conservatory meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development as called
You'll foster a safe, encouraging space where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired.
- Uphold Lovett's behavioral guidelines and model professionalism
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors about student progress
- Use varied teaching techniques - including technology - to engage students and deepen their learning
- Encourage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication through music
Our Conservatory operates throughout the school day and beyond, offering families flexibility. You'll need to be adaptable in scheduling lessons.
- Accommodate Lovett's rotating school schedule for lessons during the school day, OR
- Teach before/after regular school hours (early morning or afternoon/evening slots)
- Offer virtual lessons when appropriate to meet student and family needs
You bring:
- Bachelor of Music Degree or significant professional playing experience (Master of Music preferred)
- Professional-level playing experience on your instrument - you're an accomplished musician who can demonstrate excellence
- 2 years experience of private instructor or teaching younger students (K-8) and/or high school musicians (9-12)
- Excellent communication skills - you can explain complex musical concepts clearly to students, parents, and colleagues
- Flexibility and adaptability - you can work within a rotating school schedule and/or non-traditional lesson times
- Comfort with technology - you can teach effectively in person and virtually when needed
