JOB PURPOSE

The Early Years French Teaching Assistant collaborates with 2 full‑time teachers in a classroom for 3 and 4‑year‑olds. The assistant helps implement curriculum and provides ideas for classroom instruction, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where children feel belonging through inquiry in a play‑based setting.

POSITION STATUS

10‑month employee – Teaching Assistant (40 hours per week, full‑time) – Exempt – Reports to Head of Primary School – Start Date August 3, 2026 – Final date to receive applications July 3, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate and co‑teach with lead teacher: prepare and deliver play‑based inquiry‑based lessons across subjects with a transdisciplinary approach.
  • Differentiate instruction to cater to learner variability: support lead teacher in small groups or individual instruction.
  • Cultivate relationships with students and build a positive classroom environment using restorative practices to foster belonging and respect.
  • Develop an intentionally inclusive and safe learning environment that values students’ linguistic, cultural, racial, and ethnic identities.
  • Establish a proactive, supportive classroom culture with clear and consistent routines and restorative practices to build independent thinking.
  • Foster a dynamic and joyful learning environment by implementing engaging inquiry‑based lessons that inspire a love of learning and critical thinking.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of immersion language learning and teaching best practices: teach students at various proficiency levels with multimodal instruction across oral language domains.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse cultural and linguistic groups, integrating culturally responsive strategies.
  • Demonstrate a flexible mindset: adjust instructional practices based on feedback from the lead teacher.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with children.
  • Proficiency in French is required; additional proficiency in English preferred.
  • Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with Restorative Practices and/or Responsive Classroom is preferred.
