Description
Sponsor Funded Professional – Educational Program Specialist – Educational Opp & TRIO Program. The position will be located at the Alpharetta GSU Perimeter College Campus.
The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) programs are federally funded by the United States Department of Education. Through specialized services, they aim to increase the retention and graduation rates of college students who demonstrate academic need and who are first‑generation, low‑income, and/or have a documented disability. The goal is to provide equal opportunity for all students to reach their full personal, academic, and career potential.
The Educational Program Specialist is responsible for providing services to the TRIO SSS participants. The role advocates for and empowers participants toward self‑sufficiency by conducting needs assessments, offering academic, career, financial, social, and personal development advisement, assisting in graduate or professional school preparation, conducting workshops, and tracking student records. Excellent communication skills are required to develop strong rapport with students, faculty, and staff.

- Identify and recruit eligible participants for the TRIO SSS Program.
- Maintain a caseload of students and meet regularly to provide academic, career, social/personal, financial, and transfer/graduate/professional school advisement.
- Develop, plan, and facilitate seminars and workshops for program participants.
- Coordinate academic, cultural, and educational services/activities to meet objectives.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of program data required for federal reporting purposes.
- Generate monthly reports and assist the Director with annual performance reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Make oral presentations to undergraduate‑level students.
- Possess experience advising first‑generation college students and individuals with disabilities.
This position may require local travel between campuses for meetings and other responsibilities. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds is required. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are necessary to interact with people in person, on the phone, and in writing. The job is conducted in normal environmental conditions.

QualificationsMinimum Hiring
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Hiring
Qualifications:
- Strong work ethic, confidentiality, organizational, record‑keeping, time‑management, and multi‑tasking skills; excellent oral, written, listening, and communication skills.
- Experience advising, counseling, and/or mentoring students; experience coordinating program services and facilitating workshops.
- Preference for candidates with a master’s degree and at least two years of full‑time experience as an academic coach, advisor, or similar role in higher education, nonprofit, or community service organization.
- Previous TRIO work experience or experience with low‑income, first‑generation, and/or students with disabilities is a plus; background similar to participants served by TRIO SSS Program.
