MIDDLE SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER

Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, Ga., with an enrollment of 1,150 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. The Middle School English teacher will teach three (3) sections of eighth-grade English and two (2) sections of seventh-grade Study Strategies. With 284 students in the sixth through eighth grades, the Pace Academy Middle School is a vibrant learning environment that provides an innovative academic program within a nurturing community. Our expert teachers create meaningful learning opportunities for students through lessons that emphasize academic excellence, critical thinking, empathy, and integrity.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong organizational and problem‑solving skills, as well as possess an outgoing personality, an ability to be flexible, and the willingness to work collaboratively with other faculty, administration, and parents. Demonstrated experience teaching executive functioning skills to a variety of learners is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study in conjunction with other Middle School faculty, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Experience in helping students identify strengths, challenges, opportunities, and potential obstacles, and helping those students create action plans.
  • Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and classroom culture.
  • Attends training, professional development, and education in antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner.
  • Leads parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Attends parent gatherings and assists with school‑sponsored trips.
  • Participates in the co‑curricular activities of the school community (such as coaching, sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, etc.).
  • Willing to co‑coordinate the DIBELS reading monitoring system for students in conjunction with the Middle School Academic Resource Center.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred. One or both should be in English.
  • Two to five years of teaching experience required. Eighth‑grade experience preferred.
  • Experience teaching in middle school academics and/or experience in Special Education preferred.
  • Strong sense of humor, flexibility, and desire to work with middle‑school students are required.
  • Must be available for student help outside of class time.
  • Attendance at evening and weekend functions is occasionally required.
  • Strong knowledge of a wide variety of study strategies and the ability to differentiate these techniques for different learners is required.
  • Proficient use of technology is necessary.
  • Must be able to work on campus for in‑person learning.
Working Conditions
  • Classroom environment that may regularly require the employee to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, or kneel.
  • Ability to sit at a computer desk for an extended period.
  • Ability to operate a computer, smart board, and/or projector.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 lbs with assistance.
