Position: Recurrent Training Instructor - Firearms, Defensive Tactics/measures, and Use of Force - Full time

Job Summary

Recurrent Training Instructors (RTIs) are responsible for training Federal Flight Deck Officers in the use of weapons and self‑defense tactics to defend the cockpits of commercial aircraft.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct training sessions and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of training activities.
  • Coordinate logistics for instruction events, including scheduling classes, reserving classrooms, and preparing workstations.
  • Maintain records of training activities, participant progress, and program effectiveness.
  • Participate in the development and establishment of course content and objectives.
  • Update course documentation as needed to ensure timeliness and relevance.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to less experienced instructors.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of formal experience as an instructor in firearms, defensive tactics/measures, and use of force.
  • Current or former federal, state, or local law enforcement agents/officers.
  • Successfully completed a recognized federal firearms instructor training program or equivalent accepted by TSA.
  • Successfully completed a recognized law‑enforcement instructor development course such as FLTEC IDC or FAMS IDC.
  • Successful completion of an instructor qualification program (IQP) as required by TSA/FAMS.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate training concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Working Conditions

The work is performed in classrooms, simulators, and firing ranges requiring safety precautions. Employees handle ammunition, wear hearing protection, and must wash hands after handling ammunition. Physical effort may be required for handling materials.
