Job Summary

Serve as a key team member in Academic Success & Advising (ASA), a unit in the Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (OUESS). Provide leadership in training and professional development to advising, career services, and other stakeholders. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

This position will interact on a regular basis with:
Faculty, advisors, and undergraduate students. This position typically will advise and counsel:
Undergraduate students, faculty, staff, campus partners, and stakeholders. This position will supervise:
Assigned staff and students.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to students, focusing on those considering major changes, seeking minors or certificates, or facing academic difficulties, while connecting them with appropriate support resources.
  • Oversee the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of advising programs, aligning with strategic goals.
  • Provide advising and onboarding support for students, coordinating with UG Admission Support campus initiatives focused on student retention and success, including contributing to FASET Orientation, Welcome Programs, and other transition/success programs.
  • Teach a section (as lead instructor) of GT2000 (or equivalent course as determined by supervisor) each academic year.
  • Develop and implement workshops, webinars, and promotional materials to guide students in academic planning, experiential learning opportunities, and overall success strategies.
  • Regularly communicate with GTAAN and advising communities regarding programming, opportunities, and updates.
  • Collaborate with Undergraduate Curricular Initiatives and the Undergraduate Career Education team in the Career Center to align exploratory advising practices with curricular changes and career advising efforts, supporting students as they explore and select majors.

Required Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements:

    Master’s Degree.
  • Required Experience:

    Five to six years of relevant experience in advising, coaching, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred Education and System Knowledge:
    Additional professional certification in advising, coaching or related field strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to utilize systems, such as Slate, BANNER, EAB Navigate
    360 and Degree Works to assess the full scope of a student’s academic record.
  • Preferred Experience:

    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workflows and deadlines;
    Experience supporting transfer credit evaluation and/or degree audit processes; 3-5 years direct or related experience working in academic advising, transfer services, registrar operations, or transfer student success operations;
    Advanced training and/or coursework completion that focuses on challenges and successes of transfer student populations, understanding of transfer educational experiences, and barriers to success;
    Experience working with transfer student athletes;
    Proven track record of partnering with campus stakeholders to improve transfer pathways and outcomes;
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    Ten years of relevant experience in advising, coaching or related field.

    :
    This position must work effectively with the entire undergraduate advising community, which is made up of staff and faculty working in all academic units, as well as in Student Life, International Education, Career Center/services, Registrar's Office, Enrollment Management, and GT Athletics Association.
