Kindergarten and First Grade Behavior Intervention Program Teacher

The Behavior Intervention Teacher creates a flexible early childhood/elementary environment favorable to learning and personal growth. The incumbent utilizes knowledge, skills and experience with behavior management, trauma‑informed instruction and Social Emotional Learning programs, and applies research‑based de‑escalation techniques to assist students in managing behaviors. The teacher establishes effective rapport with pupils, motivates them to develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge needed for a strong foundation in early childhood/elementary grade education, in accordance with each child's ability, and builds positive relationships with parents and staff.

Positions are paid on the 210‑day Teacher‑Behavioral Program Salary Schedule (for General Education teachers) or the SPED‑Behavioral Program Salary Schedule (for SPED teachers) plus an annual supplement of $7,000.

• Teaches content‑related instruction based on Fulton County’s curriculum.
• Develops lesson plans, instructional materials, and establishes standard‑based long‑ and short‑range goals for students.
• Plans, establishes, and maintains procedures for managing student behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere and maximize instructional time.
• Facilitates home‑school communication through conferences, telephone, and written communications.
• Utilizes de‑escalation techniques for students in need.
• Identifies pupil needs and develops, implements, and evaluates individual behavior intervention plans.
• Participates in professional development in Social Emotional Learning and behavior support/intervention practices.
• Demonstrates effective classroom management by overseeing transitions between activities or classes.
• Uses assessments to evaluate academic and social growth, maintains records, and prepares progress reports or other indicators of student achievement.
• Provides individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
• Translates lesson plans and instructional strategies into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
• Engages students in a variety of learning experiences that promote self‑directed learning and inquiry.
• Maintains documentation of behavioral interventions and communicates regularly with parents via newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
• Conducts professional development sessions for grade‑level peers.
• Adheres to all county, state, and federal policies and procedures.
• Observes professional ethics in all work‑related activities.

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university.

Valid Georgia Teaching Certification in the applicable field is required, or the candidate must be eligible to obtain a Georgia Teaching Certificate.

Ideal candidates have experience working with students who demonstrate behavioral difficulties, possess knowledge and experience with behavioral planning and intervention, social-emotional learning, de‑escalation techniques and strategies, and trauma‑informed instruction.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to identify student adjustment, behavioral, social, and/or academic problems.
• Ability to supervise students and maintain order in classroom and instructional activities.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on district objectives and the needs of assigned students.
• Demonstrates a thorough command of the discipline/content taught.
• Exhibits knowledge of performance‑based instruction and assessment.
• Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to lift and carry 30‑50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
• May require stooping or crouching.
• Ability to physically manage student behavior, if necessary, using approved physical management techniques.
