Clayton County Public Schools Principal Position

Principals for Clayton County Public Schools serve as the instructional and operational leader of a district school. Principals have a clear vision for their students. They ensure a safe, secure, and orderly working and learning environment. Principals foster positive relationships with diverse stakeholders, especially with students. The appointees promote evidence and researched-based instructional and operational practices that help staff and students succeed.

Principals make complex decisions that affect the day-to-day operations of the school. They develop innovative strategies to recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified staff. Principals also work with school staff to create a comprehensive school improvement plan that is monitored during the school year to ensure the actions and goals are being accomplished. Principals cultivate professional improvement and growth of self and others, and build the leadership capacity of staff.

Principals monitor the implementation of policies related to public education. Principals use data science to improve student outcomes, school outcomes, school operations, and to communicate school progress to stakeholders. This position reports to the designated Assistant Superintendent for School Leaders.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with assistant principals and instructional support staff to lead high-fidelity implementation of district policies as well as instructional process, practices, and programs to include curriculum, instruction, assessment, intervention, and prevention. Managing, analyzing, and interpreting demographic, student learning, process, and perceptual data for school improvement. Ensuring faculty and staff participation in the school's continuous improvement decision-making process. Developing with stakeholders and monitoring school improvement plan based on identified students, staff, and school needs.

Conducting daily instructional walk-throughs and providing teachers with timely and constructive feedback on classroom instruction. Coordinating with the various teaching, learning, curriculum, assessment, and professional learning departments to maximize staff support and leverage resources that can improve staff performance and student outcomes.

Developing, managing, and monitoring building operations, safety, and security processes for the overall working and learning environment. Supervising and co-supervising curricular and extracurricular events. Attending school-related community events. Developing positive and collaborative relationships with staff, students, and families. Communicating with and responding to stakeholders in a timely manner. Supervising, managing, and coordinating with assistant principals the evaluation of all faculty and staff.

Screening, interviewing, and recommending staff. Assigning duties and responsibilities to staff. Developing and managing effective staff orientation and school-based onboarding processes. Conducting faculty meetings, assemblies, volunteer programs, and other school-based group activities. Reading, reviewing, and preparing reports required by the district or by state and federal policies. Ensuring implementation and compliance with district policies and procedures by working with supervisor, other district staff, school staff, and families.

Leading the planning and monitoring of the school's federal and grant budgets, and ensuring compliance of expenditures. Implementing asset management processes to report and minimize loss, theft, or damage to school property (i. e. textbooks and electronic devices). Attending state and national meetings related to accountability, school improvement, strategic planning, etc.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

Key job requirements include a master's degree required. A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as an elementary, middle, or high school assistant principal or principal required.
