The Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture (SoA) invites applications for three Ventulett NEXT Generation Visiting Fellowship positions. The NEXT Fellows is an initiative in the SoA intended to attract candidates who are at the beginning of their careers and interested in interdisciplinary teaching and research that merges design, technology, and culture.
This is a two-year, full-time 9-month non-tenure-track appointment requiring residency in Atlanta, Georgia. This appointment is scheduled to begin in Fall 2027, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. There will be a review and evaluation after the first year.
Area One:
The successful candidate will, one, advance research in urbanism and urban design with an adjacent focus in architecture; two, demonstrate capacity to lead required courses in History of Urban Form and/or Theories of Urban Design; and three, contribute to studio teaching in the Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Master of Architecture, and Master of Science in Urban Design degree programs.
Area Two:
The successful candidate will, one, advance research in ecology and climate adaptation, with a focus on carbon (embodied and operational), enhanced energy performance, and circular design strategies; two, demonstrate capacity to lead required courses in Climate Change + Design; and three, contribute to studio teaching in the Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture degree programs.
Area Three:
The successful candidate will, one, advance research in representation and computational processes; two, demonstrate capacity to lead required courses in Media + Modeling; and three, contribute to studio teaching in the Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture degree programs.
Areas One, Two, and Three:
In addition to required coursework, NEXT Fellows will have the opportunity to teach a seminar or workshop in the Spring semester to advance their directed research project. The workshops can be used to assist the Fellow in his/her own directed research that will result in a public exhibition and lecture at the School.
NEXT Fellows will be given an unparalleled opportunity to advance their own individual interests through teaching and design research utilizing the full resources of the College of Design including our Digital Fabrication Laboratory that houses asuite of industrial-scale CNC equipment. Fellows will be encouraged to conduct interdisciplinary work with faculty from other schools within the College of Design and across campus.
Fellows will also have the opportunity to work with SoA research faculty and Ph.D. students on projects of common interest.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have a terminal degree of a Master of Architecture or greater. A doctoral degree is not required but is preferred. Professional licensure is desired but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should have a demonstrated capacity for the integration of technology and critical thinking into architectural design. While not required, at least two years of teaching experience in design studios is highly desired.
