Endowed Professor and Department Chair - Tenure Track Appointment for the Department of Kinesiology, Sports Studies, and Physical Education (Kinesiology)

Morehouse College is pleased to announce a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor under the Health Equity and Well-Being Endowed Professors Hiring Initiative, funded by a gift supporting innovative work on health disparities, health equity, and community well-being. The successful candidate will also serve as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Sports Studies & Physical Education and provide academic, operational, and strategic leadership for the department in collaboration with the Dean of the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS).

We seek a teacher-scholar and academic leader specializing in education and physical health disparities, with a focus on developing culturally responsive strategies and interventions to support the well-being and development of underrepresented populations, particularly in Black communities. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarship, academic leadership, and community engagement.

Required Qualifications:

• Terminal degree in kinesiology, physical education, health education, human performance, sports psychology, or a related field.
• Qualifications appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
• Demonstrated commitment to health equity, with a specific focus on addressing disparities in educational and physical health outcomes for Black communities.
• Evidence of excellence in teaching and a sustained scholarly agenda focused on well-being, health equity, or related fields.
• Demonstrated record of academic leadership, faculty mentorship, and administrative experience in higher education.
• Experience with assessment, accreditation, curriculum development, budgeting, and faculty evaluation preferred.
• Record of service to the profession and community engagement, with a strong focus on working with underrepresented populations.
• Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration and strategic partnership development preferred

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Teaching an undergraduate course:
  Skills and Techniques of Sports, Methods of Teaching Physical Education, Methods of Coaching, History and Principles of Physical Education, Organization and Administration of Physical Education, Community Recreation, Sport Management, Sport Analytics, or Physical Activity Classes.
• Advising and mentoring students, with a special focus on underrepresented minority students and promoting their academic and professional development.
• Developing and maintaining an active scholarly agenda focused on health equity, educational and physical health disparities, and culturally responsive strategies to improve community well-being.
• Contributing service to the department, division, College, profession, and community.
• Pursuing external funding opportunities through grants and partnerships that support research, scholarship, and community engagement initiatives.
• Facilitating departmental academic programming and ensuring curricular effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
• Coordinating faculty development activities, including peer observations of teaching and support for instructional excellence.
• Leading program review, assessment, and accreditation-related activities in collaboration with the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies, the Office of Data Analytics and Institutional Research and Effectiveness, and relevant College offices.
• Managing departmental operations, including budgets, scheduling, curriculum planning, requisitions, and academic processes.
• Supervising departmental meetings and fostering a collegial and collaborative environment for shared governance and decision-making.
• Leading faculty hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and evaluation processes, including adjunct faculty coordination and faculty searches.
• Serving as the primary student-facing representative for departmental academic matters, student concerns, and advising coordination.
• Addressing departmental complaints and concerns in collaboration with faculty, staff, the Dean, and the Office of the Provost when appropriate.
• Collaborating with divisional initiatives and implementation of the College's strategic plan.
• Supporting institutional and disciplinary accreditation efforts and contributing to College-wide initiatives related to student success, health equity, and community engagement.
• Performing other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Dean or Provost
