Position: SPECIALIST LITERACY (ALM)

ALM Literacy Specialist

The ALM Literacy Specialist serves as a district-level expert responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Accelerated Literacy Model (ALM). This role focuses on strengthening foundational literacy instruction through the Science of Reading and structured literacy practices across ALM schools. The specialist partners with principals, instructional leaders, and literacy intervention staff to ensure high-fidelity implementation of district literacy frameworks, instructional practices, and intervention systems.

This role requires deep technical expertise in reading development, strong data analysis skills, and the ability to build instructional capacity across multiple schools. The ALM Literacy Specialist operates as both a technical expert and implementation driver, ensuring that instructional practices, professional learning, and intervention systems align to the district's literacy acceleration strategy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a related field required. Additional years of equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • Certification/License:
    Must hold a certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission Advanced Literacy Certification or Degree required.
  • Work Experience:

    5 years of successful experience teaching literacy or early reading. Demonstrated success improving student literacy outcomes. Experience supporting literacy initiatives across multiple schools. Experience in K12 education or public sector preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading and structured literacy practices.
  • Expertise in foundational reading development including phonological awareness, phonics, orthographic mapping, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Understanding of how reading difficulties develop and how targeted intervention addresses skill gaps.
  • Ability to analyze classroom instruction and provide actionable feedback to school leaders.
  • Strong facilitation skills for professional learning and leadership development.
  • Ability to translate research into practical instructional guidance for schools.
  • Ability to interpret literacy screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring data.
  • Skill in identifying instructional trends and performance gaps across schools.
  • Ability to support data-informed instructional decision-making.
  • Ability to manage multiple school partnerships simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills for coordinating professional learning and implementation support.
  • Ability to monitor fidelity of instructional frameworks across multiple sites.

Essential Duties:

  • Supports the implementation of the Accelerated Literacy Model across assigned schools.
  • Ensures alignment between district literacy frameworks and classroom instruction.
  • Assists school leaders in developing school-level literacy implementation plans.
  • Monitors fidelity of ALM instructional expectations across schools.
  • Provides coaching and consultation to school leaders.
  • Supports school leaders in conducting literacy-focused classroom observations.
  • Helps leaders interpret classroom instructional data and determine next steps.
  • Models strong literacy instructional practices when appropriate.
  • Designs and facilitates district and school-based professional learning aligned to ALM.
  • Provides training in structured literacy instructional practices.
  • Supports implementation of foundational skills instruction and intervention systems.
  • Facilitates learning communities focused on literacy improvement.
  • Analyzes district and school literacy data to identify trends and instructional priorities.
  • Supports schools in using screening and progress monitoring tools effectively.
  • Assists schools in adjusting instructional groupings and intervention strategies.
  • Monitors student growth within ALM schools.
  • Supports the development of effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 literacy intervention systems.
  • Ensures intervention aligns with Tier 1 literacy instruction and district scope and sequence.
