Spelman College seeks teacher/scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the continued enhancement of the academic environment for students and colleagues. Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to begin August 2027
.
We seek outstanding teacher-scholars dedicated to excellence in the chemical and biochemical sciences. The department is an American Chemical Society ( ACS ) approved program, which has a strong, proven reputation for educating and training women of African descent to excel in STEM fields. The successful candidate will have a doctorate in chemistry or a related area and be able to teach courses at the undergraduate level in at least one or more of the traditional sub-disciplinary areas of chemistry in Analytical, Biochemistry, or Organic Chemistry.

The teaching load is 3/3. The position also requires contributing effectively to curriculum development efforts, advising and mentoring students, providing service to the department and college, and establishing a competitive and highly productive undergraduate research program. The research can be in one of the fields mentioned previously or an interdisciplinary field involving the area such as bioanalytical chemistry. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with women and underrepresented minority students through teaching, mentoring, and research are especially encouraged to apply.

All courses are taught in-person.

Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Biochemistry strongly preferred for these positions. We will also consider interdisciplinary areas.
