Department Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, Media, and Arts Location Morehouse  College - Atlanta GA Position Summary Morehouse College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track professor in the field of urban health equity to join the Humanities, Social Sciences, Media & Arts (HSSMA) Division. The HSSMA Division is home to 11 Departments, 4 Academic Programs, 20 majors, over 75 full-time faculty and 4 Endowed Chairs.

We are seeking a new faculty member who specializes in the social and cultural determinants of health for the ever-growing share of the global population who live in cities. While cities can create opportunities for health, urban living can also adversely impact the health and wellness of communities. Candidates whose work brings urban health to the policy-making table and whose scholarship addresses one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

The intersection of health inequities and racial injustice

The impacts of urban policies or new technologies on health and well-being

Mapping the health impacts of urban infrastructure (transportation, land-use, energy and housing)
Applicants should have an established record of contributions to innovative solutions to social problems in Black communities, multidisciplinary scholarship and experience working across sectors and institutions. Region(s) of specialization is open. The selected candidate will be appointed at a rank commensurate with experience, preferably advanced Assistant or Associate Professor. This new faculty member will be expected to maintain an active research program with the potential for external funding, teach undergraduate courses, and develop programming in their areas of expertise.

We are looking for someone who thinks creatively about their teaching and who can engage in collaborative partnership building between Morehouse and our local communities. The faculty member will also be expected to support the General Education curriculum and co-curricular activities that enhance the intellectual development and readiness for graduate school and career mobility of our students. Candidates must demonstrate their pedagogical approach is aligned with the mission of Morehouse College—to develop men with disciplined minds who lead lives of leadership and service by emphasizing the intellectual and character development of its students and by assuming a special responsibility for teaching the history and culture of Black people.

Required Qualifications

PhD or terminal degree from an accredited institution in an academic field of study.

Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates who hold the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. However, all talented candidates who can fulfill the job responsibilities and fit the criteria will be considered regardless of faculty rank.

Preference will be given to candidates who provide evidence of leadership experience.
