Working directly with the Department of Defense, Hermeus delivers capabilities that maintain an asymmetric advantage over potential adversaries.
This Senior Structures Engineer role in Atlanta is primarily responsible for designing, building, and testing next‑generation aircraft aerostructures, including fuselage, empennage, control surfaces, and landing gear. The candidate will lead hardware upgrades, clean‑sheet designs, and mentor junior engineers on iterative airframes progressing toward hypersonic flight.
Responsibilities- Lead detailed project planning and drive hardware delivery on aggressive timelines.
- Collaborate directly with high‑level design concepts, turning them into detailed designs including final geometry, material selection, and DFM.
- Design and implement full‑stack design‑to‑build‑to‑test processes—factory layout, tooling, test flow, and vehicle integration and testing.
- Analyze build non‑conformances and chart a path forward for low‑rate prototype hardware.
- Drive the transition from prototype to production for complex aerospace assemblies.
- Critically assess process complexity—eliminate waste, simplify flow, and reduce parts.
- Perform detailed structural analysis and report structural margins.
- Develop and run test procedures for flight hardware.
- Serve as a force multiplier across production, test, and design teams.
- Strong engineering first principles.
- Comfort with CAD, test equipment, and hand tools.
- Hands‑on experience building or breaking flight hardware.
- Proven ability to design, build, breakdown, and iterate quickly.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, or related engineering field.
- Hands‑on experience with physical hardware (internships, labs, project teams, etc.).
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes (machining, welding, forming) and GD&T fundamentals.
- Designed and released flight hardware.
- Strong GD&T skills per ASME Y14.5.
- Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter and NX.
- Experience with NX Nastran and Ansys analysis tools.
- Knowledge of AWS D17.1 and aerospace welding processes.
- Leadership experience on project teams or in mentorship roles.
- Experience setting up production lines or test infrastructure in a fast‑paced environment.
- Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones.
- Must be willing to travel to test sites, other Hermeus offices, and partner locations as needed (up to 25% travel).
